Southwark SE1

Just a stone’s throw from the iconic London Bridge is Southwark. North of Elephant and Castle and with Waterloo to the West, Southwark is located bang smack on the Thames. Southwark is home to London’s historical arts and entertainment industry. The capital’s first theatres – The Globe, The Hope, and The Rose – were all built in the area in the 16th century. Also home to the Tate Modern, Southwark is a popular central location with professionals who want easy access of all that London has to offer.

Flats to Let in Southwark

Neo Bankside is an award winning iconic development of luxury apartments on the Thames, with incredible views of the city. Two-bedroom flats in the complex have rental prices just under £4000 pcm. Studio flats are a touch over £1000 pcm, whereas two-bed flats will set renters back a minimum of £1450 pcm.

There are many lovely terraced homes in the area, some in period cottages. It is rare to find any property in Southwark with over two bedrooms, but there are occasionally four and five bed properties in the £4000 to £6000 pcm bracket.

Properties to Buy in Southwark

There are many studio apartments available to buy in SE1, with purchase prices around £325,000. There are some bargains to be had, with some two-bed flats available under £400,000.

Again, there are rarely terraced properties with more than two or three bedrooms, so Southwark is not an ideal location for families with more than one or two children. Two-bed terraced homes tend to be upwards of £625,000.

Schools in Southwark

There are four primary schools in Southwark; Charles Dickens Primary, Victory Primary School, Beormund Primary School and Grange Primary School. There is not a secondary school in Southwark, however, Harris Academy is located under 10 minutes away in Bermondsey. Furthermore, Elephant and Castle is home to two fantastic girls schools, Notre Dame RC and St Saviour’s and St Olave’s CofE.

Southwark Transport Links

Southwark tube station is on the Jubilee line in Zone 1, between Waterloo and London Bridge. The line itself runs between Stanmore and Stratford. An annual travelcard to or in Zone 1 is £1,256.

There are five main bus routes running through Southwark, as well as four nighttime services. Both routes 45 and 63 end up in King’s Cross -but start in Honor Oak and Clapham Park. The 100 runs from nearby Elephant and Castle to Shadwell in the east,, whilst the 381 services Peckham to Waterloo. The RV1 service is between Covent Garden and Tower Gateway.
